Donald Trump was the topic of the firt part of the show. Good negotiator? Bad Negotiator? You decide. Did he mean to not put his hand on the Bibles during the second swearing in? You decide. In the last part we spole about Tina Peters and the governor of Colorado letting her out early from prison, and we threw in a little iphone upgrade and tech guy slop.
Yes, Donald Trump used Bibles for both of his swearing-in ceremonies, though there was a slight technical difference in how he took the oath the second time.
Here are the details for both inaugurations:
First Term (January 20, 2017)
For his first inauguration, Donald Trump took the oath of office with his left hand placed on two Bibles stacked together:
- His personal childhood Bible, which was given to him by his mother in 1955 when he graduated from Sunday school.
- The historic Lincoln Bible, which was used by Abraham Lincoln at his first inauguration in 1861 (and later used by Barack Obama).
Second Term (January 20, 2025)
For his second inauguration, the exact same two Bibles—his childhood Bible and the Lincoln Bible—were brought out and held by First Lady Melania Trump.
However, there was a minor departure from tradition during the ceremony: he did not actually place his hand on top of the Bibles while taking the oath. Instead, his hand remained raised or by his side during the swearing-in administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. Despite his hand not physically touching them during the moment of the oath, the Bibles were officially present and used as part of the ceremonial swearing-in.
