Getting to Know Julie Dennis on KISC My Health Radio

One of the goals of KISC My Health Radio is to go beyond job titles and company descriptions and introduce listeners to the people helping shape the natural ingredients and health products industries.

Julie Dennis brings an extensive background to this conversation. She is a strategic communications professional, educator and advocate for responsible communication about natural products.

As the founder of Natural Community Review, Julie works with natural products brands and raw material suppliers to take complicated scientific information and turn it into understandable and engaging content for consumers. An important part of this work is helping companies communicate responsibly while maintaining messaging that is consistent with the requirements of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, commonly known as DSHEA.

That combination of science, communication and regulatory awareness has become increasingly important as consumers search online for information about herbs, supplements and natural health ingredients.

A Career Dedicated to Botanical Science and Herbal Education

Julie Dennis has held a variety of leadership and communications positions throughout her career. Her experience includes digital marketing, editorial development, education and industry communications.

She has served as Digital Media Coordinator for Women In Nutraceuticals and as Herbal Research Editor for the American Botanical Council. Julie is also a board member of the Berkeley Herbal Center, supporting herbal education and community outreach.

Her educational background in herbalism also contributes to her perspective. Julie is a graduate of the American School of Herbalism, where her teachers included Roy Upton, Christopher Hobbs, PhD, and Dr. Michael Tierra.

Throughout her career, Julie has championed evidence-informed herbal medicine, ingredient quality, ethical marketing and consumer education.

Making Natural Health Science Easier to Understand

During conversations like this one, Stephen Lukawski and Peter Mingils explore not only what their guests have accomplished, but also what motivates them.

For Julie Dennis, a central theme has been making botanical science more accessible and practical without losing sight of scientific integrity. Consumers are exposed to an enormous amount of health information every day. Understanding how research is translated into educational and marketing materials can help people become more thoughtful consumers.

Julie brings storytelling and scientific communication together in a way that encourages better conversations throughout the natural products community.
